MANILA, Philippines?Business process outsourcing firm StarTek Inc. is adding another 1,000 people to its workforce, to fill up seats at its planned 2,100-seat facility in the Ortigas area.

In a statement, the company said its second Philippine site, located at the Eton Cyberpod Corinthian business center across the Robinsons Galleria mall, should be operational by the third quarter.

StarTek?s first site is a 1,100-seat facility in Makati City, which is expected to be filled to capacity very soon.

?StarTek has experienced significant growth in our Makati site. New program commitments from current telecommunications clients and new business opportunities have resulted in our expansion plans,? said industry veteran Rod Spires, who has been appointed to lead operations at the new site.

?The new facility will seat over 2,100 agents and we are currently recruiting for over 1,000 new employee positions to meet existing demand,? he added.

In an earlier interview, StarTek president and chief executive Larry Jones said StarTek?s investment in the second site should amount to around $8 million.

StarTek has around 9,000 seats spread over 20 sites in the United States, Canada, Costa Rica and the Philippines, with agents providing high-value voice and non-voice services to its clients.
