Stuck on Stöckinger

By: Tessa R. Salazar
STÖCKINGER is the first Filipino to win a Formula race in Europe.

His killer looks have the potential to set commercial endorsement contracts racing to his doorstep. His driving skills can leave others eating his dust. He certainly has what it takes to make a name for himself on the tracks and in the tube. Right now, however, he has stayed the course—that is, collecting wins on the racetrack. Marlon San Pedro Stöckinger, just 20 summers young, has become the first Filipino to win a Formula race in Europe. And he has all motor racing enthusiasts in this part of the world buzzing: Is he “The One”?

By: Jason K. Ang
A MORE powerful 1.5 liter i-VTEC engine

Honda is back in the game—that’s the message that Honda Cars Philippines wanted to highlight, almost as much as the launch of the new Civic itself. After months of being desperately short of cars to sell, Honda is slowly preparing for takeoff once again-first with the facelifted City, and now, the all-new Civic.

Audi RS5: Speed and efficiency through technology

By: Botchi Santos
THE RS5 boasts a couple of technological advances to keep any car geek euphoric.

Audi’s RS5 might be overshadowed by BMW’s M3 as the king of sedan-based 2-door sports coupes for fine handling and precision, and Mercedes-Benz’s mini hot-rod C63 coupe with its stonking Messchersmitt-sounding V8. But the coupe from Ingolstadt boasts a couple of technological advances to keep any car geek euphoric, poring over the technical details for hours on end.

Nissan’s high-tech NavaraTechXtreme pickup

By: Jason K. Ang
THE NISSAN Navara has chunky good looks covering a brawny drivetrain.

Barely 10 years ago, pickups were all about brute strength and durability. Bolt a high-torque engine and a robust four-wheel drive system to a sturdy chassis and you had the ingredients for a successful pickup. Now that pickups are roomier and ever more car-like cabins, these workhorses are about feature sets as much as payloads.

The Bulls of Chicago Auto Show 2012

By: Alvin Uy
BMW 3 series

The Chicago Auto Show, which ended last February 19, is considered the smallest among the five North American auto shows but the largest in terms of square area. It is among the oldest auto shows as well, with over a century of showcasing motoring excellence since 1901. The halls of McCormick Place in the windy city of Chicago saw a total of 18 major production debuts and launches this year and while it seems the recently concluded Detroit auto show overshadows the Chicago version, there were some interesting highlights to be noted there. These are some of the new cars that the American buying public welcomed during the event.

Pressure mounting for Honda

By: Botchi Santos

Last week, the motoring world was abuzz with the launch of the all-new, 9th Generation Honda Civic. Surfing through the ’net, review about the new Civic has been rather lukewarm. Pundits the world over have said that the exterior looks are rather bland, unadventurous and too safe. Honda wanted the new Civic to be instantly recognizable, and they accomplished that. But do people still want a Civic?

Confirming the City’s graduation

By: Aida Sevilal-Mendoza

The Honda City has come a long way since its intro to the Asia-Pacific car market 16 years ago. I was among the media invited to Thailand by Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) in 1996 to test-drive it and at that time the City looked exactly like what it was created to be: the entry-level, lowest-priced offering of Honda.

Bourne to have fun

By: Alvin Uy
FOUST is the leading man behind the wheel for Bourne Legacy’s major vehicle stunt scenes.

The streets of Manila has become the movie set of Bourne Legacy and as the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is busy giving public announcements on where the current location shoot would be for motorists to avoid being stuck in traffic, American TV show host and motorsport personality Tanner Foust often finds himself at the center of the chaotic scene.

Basics of tuning and modifying

By: Botchi Santos

While Filipinos love to personalize cars, many of us fail to realize that in doing so, there are compromises we should be prepared to make, be it in our driving style, the life expectancy of the parts we replaced or changed, and the associated parts of the modified or replaced component, and even the overall feel of the vehicle. Here are some helpful reminders:

‘Porsche-d’ to the limit

By: Tessa R. Salazar
22 jaw-dropping Porsches leave their marks at the Clark International Speedway.

It was a perfect Wednesday morning for flying hot air balloons—with just the right amount of wind, clouds and sun—at the former Clark Airbase in Pampanga. But my gaze was not aimed up. It was directly aimed at 22 jaw-dropping Porsches shipped in straight from Germany and parked at the Clark International Speedway.
