MANILA, Philippines — The Luzon grid will be placed under yellow alert on Wednesday night, with 22 power plants still on forced outage, said the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

According to the NGCP in advisory, the Luzon Grid will be placed under red alert from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.

However, it does not necessarily result in a power outage.

The NGCP said current available capacity in Luzon is 15,026 megawatts, while the peak demand is 12,899 megawatts.

“Four plants have been on forced outage since 2023, three between February and March 2024, and 13 since April 2024; while two others are running on derated capacity, for a total of 1409.3 megawatts unavailable to the grid,” the NGCP said.

On Tuesday, the Luzon grid was also placed under yellow alert from from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m
