Property heavyweight Ayala Land Inc. (ALI) is considering expanding into the leisure segment, unfazed by selective buying by home buyers during times of an economic slowdown.

“I think it’s (leisure segment) a good sector. In Anvaya, we have a strong platform,” ALI president Jaime Ayala said.

Anvaya Cove is ALI’s sprawling 320-hectare leisure development in Bataan province, northwest of Manila, showcasing rolling hills and features both a mountain retreat and seaside resort.

Ayala (no relation to the Zobel de Ayala family that controls the company) said ALI was considering Palawan, Boracay and Bohol as prospective sites for its expansion in the leisure sector.

“We want to expand and we are looking for the right projects,” he said.

In the first half, Anvaya Cove generated P381 million in revenues from 65 booked units and shares, down 5 percent year on year.

Anvaya Cove’s unusual terrain makes a wide variety of residential options possible.

The cliffside is the signature neighborhood of the entire Anvaya development and is touted as the most scenic because of its elevation of 35 to 50 meters above sea level and commanding views of the beach, Subic Bay and the Zambales mountain ranges.

A special area of the Cliffside, called “My Park,” has lots with backyards that connect with a one-hectare nature park, giving residents a sense of having their own private park right outside their doorstep.

Another option is the Mango Grove, which features large, mature mango trees. Views of the cove, green valleys, the Beach Club, and Nature Camp can be seen from this vantage point. The Mango Grove will also have its own playground and picnic benches.
