ABS-CBN, GMA both claim ratings lead
Media giants ABS-CBN Corp. and GMA Network Inc. claimed lead in television ratings in their respective areas for the month of June 2017.
In a statement, ABS-CBN yesterday said it had captured a nationwide audience share of 46 percent against GMA’s 34 percent, citing data from Kantar Media.
GMA, which uses data from Nielsen TV Audience Measurement, said it was the No. 1 TV network for urban viewers. Based on the National Urban Television Audience Measurement, GMA cornered an audience share of 42.3 percent, against ABS-CBN’s 37.6 percent, for June.
Both television networks separately highlighted areas where they had excelled, citing their respective third-party research companies.
ABS-CBN said it was ahead in the primetime block (6 p.m. to 12 a.m.) with an audience share of 50 percent while GMA got 32 percent.
According to ABS-CBN, the primetime block “is the most important part of the day when most Filipinos watch TV and advertisers put a larger chunk of their investment in to reach more consumers effectively.”
Article continues after this advertisementGMA highlighted its ratings in urban Luzon, where it captured 49.2 percent of the market, or 18 percentage points ahead of ABS-CBN’s 32 percent. It said the area was crucial, since it accounted for 77 percent of all urban TV households.
Article continues after this advertisementABS-CBN, meanwhile, said it was the leader in the morning block, with a 43 percent share against GMA’s 37 percent. It was likewise ahead of competition in the noontime and afternoon blocks.
Overall, ABS-CBN said it captured more viewers in Total Balance Luzon, at 47 percent against GMA’s 37 percent, and Total Luzon, at 42 percent against GMA’s 37 percent.
In Visayas and Mindanao, ABS-CBN led with larger margins. It cornered 55 percent against GMA’s 28 percent in Total Visayas, and 55 percent against GMA’s 29 percent in Total Mindanao.
