PH urged to build more data centers
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines must build more data centers—a crucial infrastructure amid the increasingly digital landscape—to keep up with its neighbors in Southeast Asia and capture the demand from hyperscalers, according to a real estate consultancy firm.
In an event in Pasay on Tuesday, Prime Philippines CEO Jet Yu noted that country currently has 182 megawatts (MW) of data center capacity, with additional 300 MW set to be built in the future.

This is significantly lower compared to regional peers like Indonesia with 514 MW, Malaysia with 640 MW and Singapore with 1,400 MW.
Data centers, which are mostly in Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Tarlac and Metro Manila, are hubs housing critical servers and information technology networks.
“However, the Philippine data center market is projected to approach $2 billion by 2030, driven by surging digital demand and hyperscaler interest,” Yu said at the Philippines Logistics Summit 2025.
Hyperscalers are entities providing cloud, networking and internet services such as Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google GCP, Alibaba AliCloud, IBM and Oracle.
The local data center has been raking in several investments coming from both Filipino and foreign players.
Last week, for example, PLDT Inc. inaugurated its 11th data center, Vitro Sta. Rosa, which has up to 50-MW in capacity.
The Pangilinan-led company, in addition, is already planning to build another data hub by next year, which is designed to have up to 100-MW capacity.
In the long run, PLDT aims to build a 500-MW data center portfolio.
Globe Telecom Inc., meanwhile, is set to fire up the initial phases of 124-MW data center in Quezon City and 6-MW hub in Cavite.
By the end of this year, the Ayala-led company is poised to reach 33 MW in capacity from the current 22 MW.
Digital Edge (Singapore) Holdings, meanwhile, opened a 10-MW data center in Laguna in 2023. The company has a commitment to spend $100 million for its Philippine operations.
