Maynilad replaces 224 km of Caloocan pipes
MANILA -Concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. (Maynilad) has replaced 224 kilometers of its old pipelines in Caloocan City to prevent leaks and improve water availability within the company’s service area.
According to Maynilad, part of the P829-million pipe replacement project was implemented in 20 barangays, noting that some pipes had already been installed for around 70 years. This has also allowed Maynilad to recover around 60 million liters per day (MLD) of water, equivalent to 24 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
“We are also conducting pipe replacements in other cities where water loss is high. In this way, we can accelerate volume delivery and boost available supply for distribution during El Niño,” said Maynilad president and chief executive Ramoncito Fernandez, referring to the weather phenomenon characterized by extended dry periods.

The company added that the new pipes were now “wider in diameter,” and could thus accommodate higher water demand in Metro Manila’s third most populous city.
Maynilad has allocated P11 billion for pipe replacement projects it intends to implement in the next four years. It aims to replace 477.2 km of old pipes within that period in line with its distribution system upgrading program and to reduce water losses.
Maynilad currently serves the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, as well as come areas in Cavite province.
