Maynilad earmarks P10B to upgrade pipeline

/ 02:09 AM December 14, 2022

Water concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. has set aside P9.9 billion to replace old and leaky pipes in various parts of its coverage area.

Maynilad, in a statement, said the replacement project covered 639 kilometers of pipes located in parts of Manila, Parañaque, Pasay, Muntinlupa and Las Piñas.

“Once completed, these pipe replacements—along with Maynilad’s leak repair and network diagnostic activities—will allow for the recovery of some 66 MLD (million liters per day) of water, which is enough to supply the water needs of almost 340,000 residents,” it added.

Maynilad has already replaced 2,974 kilometers of old pipelines—as long as the distance between Manila and Beijing—since the company’s reprivatization in 2007. This represents about 64 percent of Maynilad’s pipe network, some of whose segments had been installed way back during World War II.

“We are committed to investing in our infrastructure to continuously improve our services. Our goal is to provide 100 percent of our concession area with 24-hour supply at appropriate water pressure,” said Maynilad chief operating officer Randolph Estrellado. INQ
