MANILA, Philippines? In a bid to entice more investors to infuse capital into the local electronics sector, the Semiconductor and Electronics Industries of the Philippines Inc. will be bringing into the country companies that it believes have a great potential to locate here.
Seipi president Ernesto Santiago said in an interview that the group had teamed up with the Department of Trade and Industry and the Philippine Economic Zone Authority to formulate a promotions plan that would have inbound missions as its focal point.
?The plan is not to go out of the country, but to bring the companies here to change their perception of the Philippines. If we go to where they are, it may be more difficult for us to convince them of how good an investment site the country is. But if we bring them here, we can show them how beautiful the country is and how investing here will be good for their companies,? he said.
The budget for the promotions plan, including how much Seipi was willing to shell out to support the endeavor, was also still being studied.
To support the long-term, sustainable growth of the industry, he said the country must adopt a comprehensive branding strategy that would promote a positive image for the Philippines abroad, especially to investors.
It must also embark on competitiveness enhancement activities, with focus on key technologies such as solar and photovoltaic, mass data storage, automotive and manufacturing, he added.
