MANILA, Philippines ? The Philippines' coconut export jumped by 128 percent to 1.3 million metric tons in the first half of the year compared to data in the same period in 2009.

Philippine Coconut Administration chief Oscar Garin credited the increase in export volume to strong global demand for coconut and vegetable oils.

Garin said the export volume raked in $728 million in the first semester of 2010.
