SINGAPORE – President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has frowned on an initial proposal at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit here to come up with “exit strategies” from fiscal stimulus packages being implemented by member-countries to combat the global financial crisis.
“It’s too early for an exit plan. It’s too early to stop the fiscal stimulus. The problem is how do you finance the stimulus?” she said in a speech at a dinner with Filipino workers at the Fullerton Hotel.
“At least for the Philippines, I can say that we can still finance the fiscal stimulus. Our bonds are still marketable. That’s the reason why among many other things, I believe we are resilient and we will bounce back.”
