GSIS opens satellite office in Baler, Aurora

BALER, Aurora -- The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has further expanded its presence in the far-flung areas of the country after the pension fund formally opened yesterday its satellite office here in the town famous for being a world-class surfing destination.

Baler is the 16th satellite office of the GSIS in the country.

GSIS President and General Manager Winston F. Garcia stressed the importance of establishing satellite offices in the remote parts of the Philippines.

"In line with the vision of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the satellite office serves as a conduit between the GSIS and its stakeholders," he said. "With the satellite office here in Baler, this brings the GSIS much closer to its stakeholders in Aurora."

There are 4,208 government employees in Aurora as well as 242 pensioners, 142 of which are old-age pensioners.

The Baler office will also cater to 30 government agencies within the vicinity or near Aurora.

Among the GSIS transactions that will be made available in the Baler satellite office include loans and claims processing as well as the receiving of queries that would be referred to the regional or central office.

Like all its offices, the GSIS has also installed a GSIS Wireless Automated Processing System (G-W@PS) kiosk in the Baler office.

Garcia said that through the G-W@PS kiosk, members and pensioners will not have to travel far to apply for loans or renew their active status as GSIS pensioners, respectively.

"Before, they had to travel for four hours just to go to the nearest GSIS office, which was in Cabanatuan. Now, with the GSIS satellite office in Baler, our members and pensioners in Aurora just need to travel for 30 minutes to transact with the GSIS," he said. "This is especially crucial for our pensioners who no longer can afford to endure long travels. This is a big help to them."
