#ChickenSad? KFC, Jollibee fight the chicken war

MANILA, Philippines—And the chicken derby began.
Feathers flew in cyberspace as Kentucky Fried Chicken joined the poultry war, taking a funny jab at Jollibee’s #ChickenSad plight.
“No such thing as #ChickenSad in the house of #SoGood,” tweets @KFCPhilippines, the American fast-food chicken chain famous for its “Finger lickin’ good” ad slogan.
This apparently ruffled feathers among Jollibee’s distraught fans who took to social media as well, making #ChickenSad, a spoof of Chickenjoy, a trending hashtag.
In a statement, Jollibee said Thursday that a number of its branches in Metro Manila and nearby cities “are currently operating on a limited menu.”
Harvey Ong, Jollibee Foods Corp. vice president for marketing, said systems upgrade affected the “delivery schedule of raw materials from our commissary to select stores.”
He said they were fixing the glitch.
“We are committed to having all our products – including Chickenjoy, Jolly Spaghetti and Yumburgers – available again in all our affected stores soonest,” Ong said.
In cyberspace, meanwhile, there seems to be no let-up in netizens’ feathery war.
“KFC!!! Leave the chicken joy alone,” comments Jennifer Menieda Potente on INQUIRER.net Facebook page.
Merilyn Cabiling Ong tweets: “Hindi na sya jollibee… saddybee na.”
But Amidala Padme came to the defense of her embattled brand: “I love Jollibee Chickenjoy… the best… yum yum yum.”
Pandora Michu agrees, “Jabee still for the win. Masarap din ang KFC pero iba talaga si Jabee.”
“Guest” reader is irate at the raging chicken battle. “This is just sad. The number of lives lost from this ‘Chicken war’ had just been doubled…put an end to this. Go vegan!”
Another Jollibee rival, “Chicken McDo” entered the fray, making the brawl a three-chicken derby.
In a photo comment now going viral, mascot “Jollibee” beats up rival “Ronald McDonald” over the missing Chickenjoy.
“Kenkoy ka! San mo tinago ang mga chicken joy (You clown! Where did you hide Chickenjoy?),” the fuming Jollibee mascot asks its rival mascot, Ronald.
“Di ko alam… tanong mo kay Kentucky. O kaya kay Mang Inasal (I dunno. Ask Kentucky. Or Mang Inasal),” McDonald’s clown answered.
