MANILA, Philippines — Philippine sales of Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker BYD hit a record in 2025, with 26,122 units sold and a 446-percent increase from the previous year. Demand for electric and hybrid models accelerated.

In 2024, the brand sold 4,780 units in the Philippines.

The Ayala-backed distributor said such a performance made BYD the fastest-growing automotive brand in the Philippines last year, amid rising demand.

Battery electric vehicle sales reached 4,608 units. Seagull led the segment while the Sealion 6 DM-i topped the brand’s plug-in hybrid lineup.

“BYD’s strong growth underscores our sustained commitment to democratizing electrified mobility,” said Bob Palanca, managing director at BYD Cars Philippines.

The brand also expanded its retail footprint in 2025. The year ended with 79 operational dealerships nationwide, up from 25 a year earlier.

“These milestones are a clear signal of our unwavering, long-term commitment to the Philippine market,” said Adam Hu, country head of BYD Philippines.

BYD’s strong local performance mirrored its global results. The company sold 2.26 million electric vehicles worldwide in 2025, also a record year for the group.

Riding on the strong sales momentum, BYD renewed its passenger-car distribution agreement with AC Mobility, a subsidiary of the Ayala group. The move extended a partnership that began in August 2023.

The renewal also ensured the steady rollout of new models as well as charging infrastructure and after-sales support, the two companies said.

The broader BYD Group also tapped AC Mobility for another venture — the Philippine launch of its premium brand Denza. AC Mobility will operate Denza stores in Alabang and Cebu.

Unlike BYD cars, AC Mobility will not be Denza’s sole distributor in the Philippines. They will be distributed by BYD Philippines Corp., with two other outlets being operated by Harmony New Energy Auto Service Ltd. Corp. and E-Vantage Motors Inc.

Industry data from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. showed total EV sales at 28,102 as of November 2025. This figure, however, does not include BYD’s local sales.
