Portion of C5 South Link project opens
Relief for motorists in southern Metro Manila is coming with the opening of a section of the C5 South Link project.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said the 2.2-kilometer flyover that crossed the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) and would bridge Taguig and Pasay City would be opened to the public on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m.
“We are supportive of road engineering solutions for everyday problems. This is a vital project that will cut travel time in half from the usual 1.5 hours spent to cross from Villamor Airbase, Pasay area, to Taguig City,” Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said.
The expressway will have three lanes in each direction and is expected to serve about 8,000 vehicles per day.
The C5 South Link flyover is now accessible to vehicles plying between Fort Bonifacio, C.P. Garcia (C5), Taguig City, Parañaque City, Las Piñas City and Pasay City.
The C5 South Link is a project of toll road operator Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., a subsidiary of infrastructure giant Metro Pacific Investments Corp., whose companies include Maynilad Water Services Inc. and Manila Electric Co.
As noted, the alignment features the bridge that crosses Metro Manila Skyway (at-grade) and SLEx. The C5 Link flyover is expected to reduce vehicular traffic in Sales interchange near Villamor Airbase.
The flyover is also expected to decongest SLEx East and West Service Roads and Edsa, the DPWH said.
The whole C5 South Link spans 7.7-km and will be completed in a few years.
Roberto Bontia, president of Metro Pacific unit Cavitex Infrastructure Corp., said the C5 South Link would eventually handle about 50,000 vehicles per day.
