Manila Water lays pipes for supply from Maynilad

MANILA, Philippines — Manila Water Co. Inc. on Tuesday said it was laying pipes along E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue in Quezon City to accommodate delivery of water from Maynilad Water Services Inc.

Maynilad last month made a commitment to share with Manila Water up to 50 million liters (MLD) of water per day, to help alleviate the water shortage east zone concession area.

According to Manila Water, Maynilad is already delivering 12.73 MLD through valves located in various points of Quezon City such as at the corner of West Avenue and Bulacan Street, Greenville Subdivision, Carmel 5 Subdivision, and along Aurora Boulevard.

“The remaining 37 MLD of water will be shared by increasing the capacity of these cross-border pipes together with lines in four other identified locations in Quezon City,” Manila Water said in a statement.

“Manila Water scheduled joint inspections with concerned local and national government agencies in identified locations to determine construction and pipe laying activities to be done to allow for the cross-border sharing between the two concessionaires,” it added.

Completion of these “cross-border” projects was initially set for June, but both Manila Water and Maynilad are pushing for a wrap-up within this month in time for the start of operation of Maynilad’s new treatment plant in Muntinlupa City.

Maynilad and Manila Water had similar cooperation in two previous occasions – in 2010 and 2015 during strong occurrences of El Niño. In both cases, it was Manila Water that shared surplus water with Maynilad.
