Megaworld boosts MICE footprint with opening of P1.5-B Mactan Expo in Cebu

MANILA, Philippines — Megaworld Corp. has raised its stake in the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) sector with the opening of its first stand-alone convention center, Mactan Expo.
The convention center is located inside its 30-hectare The Mactan Newtown township in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.
The property giant said the P1.5-billion facility was part of efforts to expand tourism-related developments within its townships nationwide.

Mactan Expo will serve as one of the venues for the upcoming Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit hosted by the Philippines. This will start with Asean Travel Exchange, a key event under the Asean Tourism Forum 2026, scheduled from Jan. 28 to 30.

Megaworld said the opening of the convention center signaled a strategic diversification of its property portfolio, complementing its existing residential, office, retail and hotel developments.
The company said it intended to expand its MICE operations to other key tourism and growth areas across the country over the next five to ten years, following the launch of its Cebu facility. /dda
