Megaworld to open ‘iconic’ Cebu convention center in 2025

Billionaire Andrew Tan-led Megaworld Corp. is building a P1.5-billion convention center in Cebu with a target to open the facility by 2025.
The developer said Mactan Expo Center, located within its 30-hectare The Mactan Newtown township in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, would start construction within the year.
The Mactan Expo Center will be a two-level facility targeting the booming meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (Mice) segment. It includes a main convention hall capable of accommodating up to 2,500 people for a theater-style setup or 1,600 people for banquets.
“We hope to build another iconic landmark not just for Mactan but for the entire province of Cebu.
This convention center will be a unique standalone structure that will help boost the province’s booming Mice industry,” Kevin Tan, chief strategy officer at Megaworld, said in a statement on Tuesday.
Megaworld said the facility would also feature sustainable design and would comply with the requirements of the Philippine Green Building Council.
Mactan Newtown township currently has two hotel properties that are operated and managed by Megaworld Hotels & Resorts.
“Our hotel properties within The Mactan Newtown will be ready to handle the accommodation requirements of the Mactan Expo Center. And one thing everyone should look forward to the Mactan Expo Center is the fact that it will just be a few steps away to the beach,” Cleofe Albiso, managing director at Megaworld Hotels & Resorts, said in the same statement.
