Ensuring a cool home for summer

Living in a tropical country has already made Filipinos accustomed to the scorching heat that summer usually brings.

Not that the searing heat is tolerated idly. But rather, soaring temperatures—which threaten to hit as high as 39 degrees Celsius next month—are dealt with an array of options that will keep one cool enough during the hot summer months.

One of these options is to turn on your airconditioning units to make a “cool refuge” out of your own home.

An air-conditioner has, indeed, provided such a comfortable atmosphere that it has already become a steady fixture in many residential homes. As the demand for this appliance rose, the number of aircon brands available in the market has consequently risen.

But how do we know if we have the best brand installed in our homes? At the same time, how do we ensure that it would work well especially during the summer?

Concepcion Carrier Airconditioning Co. (CCAC) offers some tips so you can get the most out of your airconditioning units:

1 Go for the trusted brand. It is always best to go for the bigger, better and trusted brand. CCAC noted that in buying an aircon, an individual must ensure that the product is manufactured and sold by a company that has been known for its long tradition of innovation and product excellence.

“With a proven track record of leadership and industry expertise, Concepcion-Carrier is here to meet your needs with our portfolio of market-leading products and services,” the company claimed.

2 Have your units installed by a certified installer. It is still best to have a certified technician install your air-conditioner to ensure fast, reliable and hassle-free installation. At the same time, this will reduce the risk of potential damages that may arise due to poor handling or incorrect mounting.

“Using an unauthorized installer can also lead to serious consequences for your property or personal safety, such as faulty wiring and substandard work resulting in electrical fires or even electrocution,” CCAC warned.

For its part, CCAC said it always ensures that its installers are all “well-trained and updated on the latest cooling technologies, including up-to-date ozone-friendly refrigerants, and are regularly audited to ensure compliance to the strict quality standards established by Concepcion-Carrier.”

3 Find the ideal unit. CCAC advises homeowners to get the actual measurement of the room or house where they plan to install the unit. The size of the area to be cooled should also match the capacity of the aircon so as not to overwork the unit, as this would result in higher energy consumption.

CCAC currently offers a variety of air-conditioners to suit one’s needs such as the window room air conditioner (WRAC), split-type and floor-mounted air-conditioners.

4 Nationwide after-sales service. It is best to go for a brand, whose company has a wide customer service base, as this could mean better after-sales service.

5 Air filter maintenance. CCAC stressed that air filter maintenance is essential for the optimum performance of one’s air-conditioner as this will ensure that it emits clean air.

“Make sure to check and clean your filter regularly,” the company advised.

6 Preventive maintenance. While air-conditioner installation is best left to a certified installer, there are a number of troubleshooting or maintenance tasks that the owner himself/herself can do like cleaning and replacing air filters.

“Preventive maintenance is extremely important, especially before and during summer when your air-conditioner needs to work doubly hard because you turn it on for longer hours to fight the heat. Make it a point to have a Concepcion-Carrier technician conduct an annual maintenance check of your unit within the next few months,” CCAC said.
