MANILA, Philippines – SteelAsia Manufacturing Corp., one of the country’s biggest producers of steel products, has tapped Italian firm Danieli Co. Ltd. to build its P30-billion heavy steel sections mill in Quezon province.
Touting it as the first of its kind in the Philippines, the company said that its planned facility in the municipality of Candelaria will pave the way for the local production of the widely used steel products that the country is still importing today.

“The mill is a pioneering manufacturing facility in the Philippines for the first local production of heavy beams, angles, and channels, sheet piles and narrow plates, all of which are 100% imported today- mostly from China and Vietnam,” the company said in a statement.
Under the agreement, Danieli will supply all the core equipment and technology for the facility.
The planned mill is expected to create 7,000 jobs, both directly within the facility and indirectly through its supporting industries.
SteelAsia said that additional employment is also anticipated as downstream sectors –such as pre-engineered building and steel fabrication — grow in response to the mill’s operations.
