MANILA, Philippines — Property developer Torre Lorenzo Development Corp. (TLDC) is looking to expand its existing solar farm installed at its beach resort in Davao de Oro province to gradually reduce dependence on diesel generators for power.
TLDC chief operating officer Cathy Casares-Ko said they had signed with Cebu-based energy company Vivant Energy Corp. for the expansion of the 415.8-kilowatt-peak solar farm at Dusit Thani Lubi Plantation Resort.
“We’re just finalizing the costing. The first phase [of the project] was an experiment, so it’s pure solar. Phase two would include batteries,” Ko told the Inquirer last week.
As the beach resort is located on Pindasan, an island separate from the rest of Davao de Oro, establishments and residential communities depended on diesel generators for power.
Partnership with Vivant unit
According to Ko, the second phase of the solar farm project would likely come online next year to give way to the installation of additional solar panels.
TLDC inaugurated in September 2023 the initial phase of the solar farm in partnership with Corenergy Inc., a fully owned subsidiary of Vivant Energy.

Once fully developed, the solar farm is expected to power 60 percent of the resort’s energy needs, TLDC said.
Dusit Thani Lubi is one of TLDC’s three projects in Davao Region. It was developed in partnership with Thai hospitality group Dusit Thani.
Other projects include Dusit Thani Residence Davao and dusitD2 Davao, both in Davao City.
TLDC also operates Crown Residences at Tierra Davao and Ciudades Business Park, both also standing in Davao City.
