A different adventure awaits at The Henry Resort
The Henry Resort Dumaguete, the first resort in The Henry Hotels & Resorts brand, is a sprawling 32-room boutique resort overlooking the Southern Tañon seascape. It features eight villas scattered throughout its lush garden, with 32 bedrooms and communal spaces filled with heritage artwork sourced from different parts of the Philippines.
Preserving a landmark
In this same plot of land stood the former South Sea Resort, a landmark destination in the province of Negros Oriental for four decades. Rather than tearing down the existing structures of the old resort, The Henry Hotels & Resorts, led by innkeeper Hanky Lee, collaborated with renowned interior designer Eric Paras and the POLYGON team of architects, Tim and Marianne Wong, to revamp the buildings while infusing the resort with a modern Filipino touch.
Aligned with the preservation of the buildings, landscape designer Alan Tan also retained the existing Botong and Talisay trees to give the resort a lush atmosphere. The landscaping project took more than a year to complete, involving tasks such as removing weeds, trimming side branches, and reshaping approximately 70-year-old trees. Smaller plants were also introduced to enhance the pathways, and new species such as Pink Bauhinia and Champaca trees were planted, in accordance with the owner’s preferences.
Revived and reimagined
While retaining the remnants of the past resort’s beauty, it has been revived and reimagined as The Henry Resort Dumaguete, Negros Oriental’s premier resort, featuring well-conceived facilities.
