More data centers needed as PH firms go cloud

MANILA  —Data center capacity in the Philippines needs beefing up as demand for hubs that house critical servers and applications rise amid greater adoption of cloud technology, according to ST Telemedia Global Data Centers (STT GDC) Philippines.

The data center arm of Globe Telecom Inc. said in a statement on Wednesday that such facilities support connectivity and flow of data among devices and information technology networks at a time of heightened digitalization.

“The data center industry has been seeing consistent and staggering growth in recent years, as demand for data storage grows globally,” STT GDC Philippines president and CEO Carlo Malana said.

In addition, the company noted that demand for data center services has increased amid the trend among enterprises that shift their operations to cloud-based platforms, to enable a hybrid work setup.

Cloud technology enables employees of these enterprises to access files and other crucial applications digitally anywhere, but this also demands more data storage.
