AirAsia Philippines, one of the country’s largest carriers, is hiring more cabin crew, ramp agents and other personnel in its fifth round of recruitment amid the sharp increase in travel demand.

The airline announced plans to hire 80 more employees before the end of the year.

The new jobs include 50 cabin crew, guest service and ramp agents, which could bring its year-end headcount to about 1,800 employees.

This was about 80 percent of its prepandemic workforce of 2,200 workers. Like other airlines, AirAsia Philippines announced layoffs in the midst of the globe health crisis to save on expenses as lockdowns and fears over the COVID-19 virus’ spread caused travel demand to plummet.

“The horizon is very clear in terms of our growth direction. Our additional manpower will compensate for the expected increase in fleet size next year,” AirAsia Philippines CEO Ricardo Isla said in a statement.

“The sustained momentum in forward bookings continues to flourish, surpassing our 2019 figures,” he said, adding that flyers can be assured of seamless travel with on-time performance hitting a high of 90 percent recently.
