Airspeed prepares for holiday rush deliveries

Filipinos are expected to send and receive more deliveries on their doorsteps this holiday season, which will be supported by an anticipated increase in e-commerce spending.

Claudette Lucasan-Canta, chief supply chain officer at end-to-end logistics solutions and express courier company Airspeed, said they were seeing an increased demand for last-mile parcel deliveries in the last quarter.

“Airspeed Group has been preparing for the holiday rush,” she told the Inquirer.

Lucasan-Canta said they were projecting 15 percent to 20 percent growth in terms of revenues in their courier services for the October to December period from the previous quarter.

According to the International Trade Administration, market sales of the Philippine e-commerce industry amounted to $17 billion in 2021 and this is expected to grow to $24 billion in 2025.

The Airspeed official said the improving e-commerce sales “has a relative impact on demand for last-mile deliveries especially this coming holiday season.”

Lucasan-Canta said items usually sent during the rush season were personal and corporate gifts, food and groceries.

“We also handle the mall logistics of some retailers; and stock replenishment is continuous and expected to surge in the next few weeks,” she said.

She added that air freight forwarding was their most in demand service, accounting for 40 percent of their total revenues.

“Most of our clients’ commodities are time-sensitive and air freight forwarding has the fastest shipping turnaround time,” Lucasan-Canta said.
