Chevron group extends support to typhoons-hit families

/ 04:32 AM December 26, 2020

Chevron group, through Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI) and its parent firm Chevron Holdings Inc. (CHI), donated P1.5 million worth of funds and relief items to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) and Tanging Yaman Foundation of Ateneo de Manila University, for the benefit of families displaced by typhoons “Rolly” and “Ulysses.” CPI, distributor of Caltex-branded petroleum products, said the donation included P1 million to the PRC, which was used to buy relief items, fund relief activities, and provide cash grants for livelihood and shelter repair. Elizabeth Zavalla, PRC secretary general, said in a joint statement the donation would be a great help in rebuilding the affected communities. “We make our donations in hopes of improving the quality of life of the communities where we operate, and we trust that in the hands of PRC, this support will be put to good use,” CHI general manager Steve Callaghan said. The Chevron firms regularly donate to the PRC since the latter has a bigger network to carry out large-scale relief operations, such as during the Taal Volcano eruption earlier this year. Also, the CPI will use its Christmas party budget for this year, amounting to P431,000, to support of Tanging Yaman Foundation’s disaster relief efforts for families affected by the recent typhoons. “We saw the devastating aftermath of Typhoons Rolly and Ulysses, and our heart goes out to the victims,” CPI general manager and country Chair Billy Liu said. “We hope these donations will be able to help the affected communities get back on their feet,” Liu said.

On top of the corporate donations, the Chevron firms also encouraged their employees to make personal donations to the PRC and the Kaya Natin Movement, a nongovernment organization that advocates for good governance and leadership with integrity. —RONNEL DOMINGO INQ
