Yuchengco-led construction firm EEI Corp., in partnership with Spanish infrastructure firm Acciona, bagged a deal to build a 6.5-kilometer segment of a new railway line that will link the town of Malolos with the Clark International Airport.

The Malolos-Clark railway project, which is financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), is estimated to be completed in three years, EEI disclosed to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Friday.

The ADB earlier agreed to finance up to $2.75 billion for the construction of 53.1 kilometers of a passenger railway connecting Malolos in Bulacan to Clark economic zone and Clark International Airport in Central Luzon. This is part of the Philippine government’s North–South Commuter Railway (NSCR) project, a 163-kilometer suburban railway network stretching from New Clark City in Tarlac province in the north to Calamba in Laguna province in the south of Manila.

FEATURED STORIES

Based on the disclosure, EEI and Acciona’s segment involves the construction of a 6.5-kilometer main railway line, which includes an elevated section, an underground section with cut and cover technology – or “false tunnel” technology, used for surface tunnels – that will provide access to Clark International Airport station, substation and auxiliary facilities.

“The rail line will become a key transport infrastructure that will link Metro Manila to the airport in Clark and is one of the priority projects identified by the Department of Transportation in the Philippines (DOTr),” EEI said.
