World Travel & Tourism Council pushes back global summit with COVID-19

After ITB Berlin, the World Travel & Tourism Council is the latest major travel trade fair to postpone its event in light of COVID-19.

Originally scheduled to take place in April, the WTTC announced Wednesday that the 20th edition of its Global Summit will be postponed and take place in early autumn. The event will be held in Cancun, Mexico.

The new dates are meant to give the travel world time to recover from the COVID-19 outbreak.

“We stand in solidarity with governments, countries and organizations which are being affected by COVID-19 and look forward to hosting our Global Summit in the autumn. This will provide a global platform to discuss the sector’s recovery and future plans,” said WTTC president and CEO Gloria Guevara in a statement.

At the end of February, organizers of ITB Berlin, billed as the world’s biggest travel trade fair with 10,000 exhibitors from 180 countries, canceled the event which was due to open March 4. JB
