PayPal plans to beef up PH workforce by 1,000

PayPal, a global leader in online payment solutions, plans to hire 1,000 more workers by the end of next year, as it inaugurated recently its first consolidated operations site in the Philippines, the company said.

PayPal said it previously targeted 1,000 new hires up to 2021, but the company was on track to hitting the target ahead of schedule due to growing demand and a large pool of local talent.

The new hires will add to the company’s current workforce in the global operations center in Alabang of 700 people.

PayPal said it would look to fill key roles in customer support, voice and non-voice processes, and risk management to cater to English-speaking customers worldwide.

The company’s decision to set up its global operations center in Alabang reinforces the country’s reputation as a hotbed for talent, PayPal said.

“Filipinos are renowned not only for their outstanding command of the English language, but also for their customer service expertise, as well as their resourcefulness, hard work, and openness to new experiences,” said John Nicholls, the country lead and senior director of PayPal Global Customer Services.

PayPal said that its Alabang office was “designed for millennials,” as the demographic makes up a significant part of the country’s labor force.

Apart from rest areas, a karaoke room, and a games area, the company said the new office sports a modern cafeteria serving organic food that easily converts into a function zone complete with built-in LED screens and state-of-the-art sound system for events.

PayPal, which is available in over 200 markets, currently has more than 286 million active accounts, as the company aims to make financial services and commerce more convenient, affordable, and secure.
