Mood-boosting hacks right IN your own home

Stress and anxiety are two inescapable facts of life.

Some can easily brush these off while others, however, find it more difficult to do so.  Although stress and anxiety can have a positive effect in building our character, like helping us turn into stronger, motivated individuals, there are also times when we are rendered hopeless when overcome by these two.

Healthline explains that people who suffer from stress and anxiety may find themselves suffering from stomachaches, headaches, palpitations, dizziness and fatigue.    In addition to physical manifestations, one may also experience restlessness, difficulty in concentrating, inexplicable panic or nervousness and irrational anger.

Take vitamins or health supplements that reduce stress and anxiety in the body.  Green tea, for instance, increases serotonin levels in the body. Omega-3 fatty acids also reduce anxiety symptoms by 20 percent.

Exercise

Regular exercise makes our body release endorphins which trigger positive feelings and lower our body’s stress hormones such as cortisol.  Figure out which kind of exercise appeals most to you, whether it’s brisk walking, playing a team sport such as football, doing yoga or dancing.

Practice deep breathing

Deep, rhythmic breathing lowers stress in the body and even tells it to relax and be in a calmer state. There are many apps which you can install in your smart phone or smart watch which can remind and guide you to go through your deep breathing exercises.

Pets

According to Healthline, having a pet can help reduce stress and uplift your mood.  Bonding with pets, whether it’s furry or scaly, may help release oxytocin, a hormone sometimes referred to as the “love hormone” or “cuddle hormone.”  Having a pet gives you purpose, assures you of good company and keeps you on your toes.  It is also a fun exercise partner.

It is important to note, however, that when stress and anxiety start interfering with one’s capacity to function normally and disrupts his daily life, consulting with a doctor or a health professional is a must.

Medicard Philippines Inc. has wellness events which one can join for that jolt of positive and mood-boosting hormones.  Members can also get discounted massage services, all you need to do is present your Medicard ID at partner establishments.  Visit their Facebook page, facebook.com/MediCard.PH, and Instagram, instagram.com/medicardphils, for events and promos.
