An upgraded cashless experience for Unilab employees. Employees of Unilab can easily tap or scan to pay for their orders at their office cafeteria as well as enjoy the benefits of cashless payments outside the office premises as the company upgrades its cashless ecosystem with the help of PayMaya. Employees of United Laboratories, Inc. (Unilab) recently got a more convenient way to pay–whether they are in the office or outside–as the company replaced their RFID card-based payment system with the latest technologies from PayMaya, the leader in digital financial services in the Philippines.

More than 3,000 employees of Unilab will receive co-branded prepaid PayMaya cards which they can use in their office cafeteria to pay for food and other goods, as well as in any establishment outside office premises that accepts card payments.

Cafeteria merchants and concessionaires will likewise be equipped with PayMaya QR codes and One by PayMaya Business point-of-sales (POS) devices so they can accept not just payments using their PayMaya-powered Unilab cards, but also via credit and debit cards as well as other emerging payment options.

PayMaya, the digital financial services arm of Voyager Innovations, is the only technology company offering integrated payments platforms for both consumers and merchants, and the widest branch network across the country.

“With a growing millennial and Gen-Z workforce, it is imperative for us to adopt emerging technologies. We are excited to have an upgraded payment experience in our cafeteria through the help of PayMaya, and we are looking forward to utilize this technology in other areas as well,” said Arch. Lawrence L. Ong, Senior Vice President at Unilab.

Recognized as one of the largest prescription, consumer healthcare, and personal beauty companies in the Philippines, Unilab is likewise credited for a strong employee culture anchored on the concept of “bayanihan,” or teamwork.

“Much like the concept of ‘Bayanihan’, it takes a village–or an entire ecosystem–to push for adoption of cashless payment technologies in the Philippines, and we are glad that Unilab is one of the frontrunners in this space,” Paolo Azzola, COO and Managing Director at PayMaya.

Greater convenience for a happier workforce

Now that their in-house cashless ecosystem is powered by PayMaya, employees will also experience greater convenience when they add money to their accounts through the more than 40,000 touchpoints of PayMaya nationwide, including the online sites or mobile apps of their banks via Instapay as well as via the top-up kiosk available near the cafeteria.

Aside from greater convenience within the office premises, employees will also be able to use their PayMaya-powered cards in a variety of everyday situations, including:

  • Sending money to colleagues or family via the app’s Send Money function
  • Buying online or in-store using the card, or via PayMaya QR
  • Paying their bills
  • Buying prepaid load, gaming pins, and other treats for their children
  • Withdrawing funds via ATM

More and more Philippine enterprises such as Unilab are seeing the value of equipping their employees with cashless payment options for office and other uses. Aside from the convenience it brings, mobile wallets and cards such as PayMaya promote safety of employees, because they no longer have to carry large amounts of cash with them every time.
