Its expected completion in four years’ time may very well put the Philippines on the global map—this time for being home to one of the world’s largest indoor theme parks.
Set to rise on a 9.5-ha property within the Entertainment City is the $1.5-billion Nayon Landing, an integrated leisure and entertainment resort that promises to be a unique destination across several fronts.
For one, this family-oriented destination is poised to become the latest iconic showcase of a modern Manila that pays homage to the country’s historical roots and rich cultural heritage. That’s because this ambitious project will have as its centerpiece a cultural theme park and indoor waterpark featuring Philippine heritage.
Nayon Landing will also be home to Asia’s first and largest indoor movie-based theme park; a state-of-the-art convention center to cater to the meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) industry; luxury hotels; retail and dining areas inspired by Philippine festivals; a casino; and other commercial facilities.
Proponents had already kicked off this ambitious project with a groundbreaking ceremony held earlier this month.
Nayon Landing is being developed by Landing Resorts Philippines Development Corp., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Hong Kong-listed Landing International Development Ltd. Tapped for the project were H1 Architecture and Jack Rouse and Associates for the attractions.
Beyond providing a new entertainment destination, Nayon Landing is seen to create the much needed jobs, boost tourism receipts and arrivals, and generate additional revenues for the government.
Anticipation is thus running high this early. Here are some of the features you can expect from Nayon Landing.
Pilipino Cultural Theme Park
Serving as the cultural anchor of Nayon Landing, this feature will both educate and inspire guests. From the picturesque rice terraces of Luzon to the Chocolate Hills of Visayas and the majestic mountains of Mindanao, the theme park will celebrate each island’s natural beauty and unique culture in a manner that is both entertaining and memorable.
Highlights of the theme park include a stunning recreation of Mount Mayon, cultural shows and demonstrations hosted within a unique amphitheater, a walk through display of traditional villages and architecture, an immersive media experience showcasing the country’s colorful festivals, a tour of the country via a 360-degree theatrical presentation, along with a variety of other galleries, displays and interactive experiences.
Pilipino Waterpark
Whether it’s taking a plunge on a thrilling slide or embarking on a relaxing journey through an underground river, there is something for everyone at the Pilipino Waterpark, slated to be one of the largest indoor cultural themed waterparks in the world.
The plan is to have crystal clear waterfalls cascade down a series of terraces; a suspended lazy river disappears into a towering volcano; and a wave pool surrounded by swaying palms and rock work found within the world’s most beautiful beaches.
Movie theme park
Being Asia’s first, this indoor movie theme park will consist of seven zones that will combine state-of-the-art movie-themed rides and attractions.
Hotel zone
With a range of luxury and family-oriented hotels, visitors will be spoiled for choice with over 1,500 luxury hotel rooms to choose from. These will be inspired by the beauty surrounding the Philippines, articulated through materials, shapes, colors and textures that bring dynamism into this space.
Signature Rooftop Sky Park, Infinity Pool
The iconic rooftop sky park and infinity pool will be the first of its kind in the Philippines, offering a view of the city skyline from the highest floor. Luxurious poolside lounges, bars and clubs are expected to be among Manila’s popular social venues.
Retail scene
Themed retail is influenced by the street party scene, a festival parade showcasing the various fiestas celebrated across the country, thus highlighting the diverse culture and history found all over the Philippines. The planned shopping area will also be one of the largest of its kind in the Philippines.
M.I.C.E. Zone
The 5,000-sqm ballroom will reportedly be the largest pillar-free ballroom in the Philippines, which can accommodate roughly 4,000 guests. It is thus perfect for large-scale conferences, exhibitions, international events, business events and banquets.
Interiors meanwhile will be inspired by Philippine legends and folklore.
