Toyota hits 1M sales mark
Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. has sold over 1 million units since it started operations in the country in 1989.
Of the total volume sold, 615,899 units were locally manufactured vehicles, all produced in its previous Bicutan assembly plant and the existing Santa Rosa facility in Laguna, affirming TMP’s position as one of the major players in the local automotive manufacturing industry.
Reaching the 1-million sales mark, according to TMP, was a testament to Toyota’s thrust in producing “always better cars.”
“Achieving this 1-million sales milestone is a great accomplishment for our company and the local automotive industry. We initially forecasted that this breakthrough will only be realized by the second semester of the year, but because of our continued strong sales, we achieved this feat three months ahead of time,” TMP president Michinobu Sugata said in a statement issued Tuesday.
According to Sugata, the company’s 1-million sales milestone was made possible in just 27 years, through the loyalty and trust of its customers and the strong partnerships and linkages it had forged with all of its stakeholders.
“We, at Toyota, put to heart that achieving more than 1 million sales only means that we have already generated more than a million customer smiles. While this delights us, it further fuels us to serve our customers more fervently by consistently providing better products and services through our 47 dealers nationwide,” Sugata said.

Aside from economic contributions through investments, taxes and duties paid, as well as stable employment generated, Toyota remains committed to invest in people and technology, as well as actively implement corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities in the areas of health, education, environment and community service. On top of making our customers smile, we also want to put a smile on the faces of many Filipinos by giving back to society,” Sugata added.
Of the 1 million units sold since 1989, 268,065 units included Toyota Tamaraw FX, Revo and Innova, while the Corolla and the Vios contributed 213,325 and 157,347 units, respectively, to the company’s sales.
