MANILA, Philippines—Consumer goods giant Nestlé Philippines Inc. has voluntarily recalled a batch of one of its infant formula products after finding that it lacked some nutrients, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said on Thursday.

In an advisory, the FDA advised the public that Nestlé Philippines Inc. has initiated a voluntary withdrawal of one batch of NAN Pro Two Infant Formula 1.3kg (2 x 650g) with Lot Identification Code 414901898A after it was found not to contain the fatty acids DHA (docosahexanoic acid) and ARA (arachidonic acid) mentioned on the label.

However, the FDA was quick to add that the DHA and ARA fatty acids are not mandatory nutrients in infant formula so there are no safety or health risks involved.

No other products or batches were affected by this withdrawal, the health agency said.

“The public is hereby assured that the FDA will work closely with Nestlé Philippines Inc. in monitoring this voluntary withdrawal of the product,” it added.
