Sandiganbayan employees walk out to protest higher taxes
MANILA, Philippines–Sandiganbayan employees on Thursday staged a walkout and denounced the government’s move to increase tax deductions of court employees.
“The benefits we received is supposed to support our family’s everyday needs as our meager compensation income is not even enough to sustain our basic needs up to the next monthly payday,” Rodolfo Cadelina, President of the Sandiganbayan Employees Association said.
Sandiganbayan rank and file employees said they were shocked that upon receiving their Economic Development Assistance (EDA), a substantial amount was deducted as tax.
Based on the Memorandum Order No. 12-B-2014, if a rank employee receives a financial benefit of P10,000, the employee will only take home P6,800 due to tax.
EDA is part of the fringe benefits granted to Sandiganbayan.
