MALAYAN Towage and Salvage Corp. (Salvtug) further strengthened its capacity to provide support services to the shipping industry with the recent inauguration of its three new tugboats.
Japanese-made M/T Vigilant is a 4,000-BHP hybrid harbor assist tug, while the 4,400-BHP M/T Intrepid and the 4,400-BHP M/T Defiance, both from Singapore, are ocean-going harbor tugs. Like the other tugboats in the company’s fleet, the new vessels are specially fitted with fire-fighting equipment, fire pumps capable of releasing 480 cubic meters per hour and omni-directional fire monitors.
The acquisition of the three tugs is another milestone for Salvtug, which started operations in late 1974 with only three coastal tugs and four barges. The company now has 41 multitasked tugs, six special project vessels, a crewboat, 13 container and general cargo barges.
Salvtug, a Philippine Coast Guard-accredited salvage company, has refloated 145 vessels of various sizes. It provides more than 90 percent of the docking and undocking services for all types and sizes of vessels in all major Philippine ports. It is also the tug service provider for plants operated by major fuel and energy companies.
With its 24/7 communication information center, it has the capability to deploy, at short notice, emergency response teams offering comprehensive marine and shoreside logistical services.
