NGCP sees power interruptions in some parts of Luzon and Visayas

MANILA, Philippines (Updated) — Some areas in Luzon and Visayas may experience power interruption on Thursday afternoon, National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said in an advisory.

The grid operator said that manual load dropping (MLD), or cutting off power due to power supply shortage, will be carried out starting from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the following areas “to maintain the integrity of the power system”:

“Schedule may be canceled if system condition improves, such as if actual demand falls below projections,” the post read.

The NGCP also earlier announced the implementation of MLD in Noreco II (Pulantubig, Bagacay, Dauin, and Siaton Substations), Negros Oriental, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

“NGCP’s Amlan-Dumaguete 138kV Line, certified as an Energy Project of National Significance (EPNS), is intended to address the overloading of the existing 69kV line and asks for the support of the communities, the local government, and other stakeholders in the completion of this critical project,” it said.
