Malaysian firm to turn land around Maguindanao massacre site into plantation

Idle land around the site of the 2009 Maguindanao massacre in which 58 people were killed is up for conversion into a banana plantation and agricultural complex with amenities such as a hospital and a prayer house, Maguindanao Governor Esmael Mangudadatu announced on Saturday.

International Finance Corp. (IFC), the private sector funding arm of the World Bank, is working with partners to design new insurance products that aim to protect Filipino farmers against costly typhoon-related losses.  AP/BULLIT MARQUEZ

Japanese firm Sumifru Banana Corp., Land Bank of the Philippines and banana growers in areas hard-hit by Typhoon “Pablo” are set to sign a tripartite agreement to rehabilitate affected banana plantations in Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley.
