Idle land around the site of the 2009 Maguindanao massacre in which 58 people were killed is up for conversion into a banana plantation and agricultural complex with amenities such as a hospital and a prayer house, Maguindanao Governor Esmael Mangudadatu announced on Saturday.

Japanese firm Sumifru Banana Corp., Land Bank of the Philippines and banana growers in areas hard-hit by Typhoon “Pablo” are set to sign a tripartite agreement to rehabilitate affected banana plantations in Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley.
The Board of Investments (BoI) has approved a P216-million banana production project, which is seen to help boost the country’s exports to key markets and create more than 300 new jobs.
