Intellectually Waywardly Whetever, a blog authored by Prince Couen E. Golez, a teacher at Mindanao State University-IIT is hosting the 1st Peter Solis Nery Essay Writing Contest. The contest entices individuals, especially the youth to increase their interests in writing, and in Philippine Literature. Moreover, it recognizes the poems, prose and short fiction of the very talented Mr. Peter Solis Nery.
Peter Solis Nery is a poet, fictionist, and a teacher to Mr. Golez at UP in the Visayas. He has won the Don Carlos Palanca Awards, Philippine Centennial Literary Prize, and Cultural Center of the Philippines Literature Grant. To date, he has authored eleven (11) books, and published three (3) issues of the notorious, Pierre Magazine.
Mr. Nery has just won 1st Prize in the recent Palanca Awards held on September 1, 2007 for his Hiligaynon fiction, Candido. Invincible, on the other hand, the translation (English) of Candido is one of the official selections students need to analyze for the contest.
