Peso rises on reports of Japan’s economic stimulus

MANILA, Philippines—The peso rose on Tuesday as investors speculated that the central bank of Japan would inject more funds to stimulate growth of the Japanese economy, a move that could spur demand for emerging-market assets.

The local currency closed at 41.315 against the US dollar, up by 7.5 centavos from the previous day’s finish of 41.39:$1.

Intraday high hit 41.29:$1, while intraday low settled at 41.335:$1.

Volume of trade amounted to $690.45 million from $738.65 million previously.

The appreciation of the peso, which came with the rise of other key Asian currencies against the greenback, came as some investors took the view that the Bank of Japan will inject more funds, such as through bond purchases, to spur the lackluster growth of the Japanese economy.

Traders expect that portions of the funds to be injected, if indeed there would be, will be used by holders to buy emerging-market assets and thus cause rise of Asian currencies in the weeks or months ahead. Consequently, they said, demand for such assets actually rose as yield-seeking investors took advantage of potential income opportunity.

govt should encourage SMI’s to become exporters of their products, it also  creates more employment opportunities for ‘Filipinos , NOT the importers which only ‘kills’ local industries,, kya yumaman o mas maunlad ang japan, korea, indonesia & other asian tigers ay mas mababa ang value ng pera nila kya mas madami silang export na products ..

ganyan ba ang strong peso? sa dyaryo o statistics lang yan at di sa actual na nangyayari, , tumataas lahat ang value ng goods & services. dapat kung tumaas ang value ng isang currency tulad ng peso , lahat ng bilihin ay dpat steady lang o pababa ang halaga at di ganyan na lahat nagtataasan pa, kya kbaliktaran ang nangyayari.,,,it only creates unemployment in the export industries & it makes the product more expensive to foreign buyers, it also discourages local SMI’s to export their products, ang isa pang apektado ay ang remittance ng tulad naming mga “ofw’s”, paliit ng paliit ang remittance with the same amount of money we are sending few years back.,,dapat ang value ng peso sa panahon ngaun ay from 41pesos to 50 pesos per dollar, pra sumigla ang export industries at ang remittance ng mga ofw’s,,,,with that exchange rate lalong lalaki pa ang dollar reserve ng bsp….

  • oh_noh

    strong peso kuno!
dapat pag malakas ang pera mo, mas madami kang mabibili… ganyan nga ba ang nangyayari?!

Ang mga importers ay mas maraming nabibili.

Hmm.. too much appreciation of the peso might affect OFWs’ income as most of them are being paid in USD. Banko Sentral should be watching this situation.
