MANILA, Philippines—Local Government Units (LGUs) are the foundation for national progress. The various programs they implement are the building blocks for growth and development, and pave the way for a brighter future. By working with Meralco as a “Partner for Progress” for more energized and efficient operations, LGUs are able to take their programs a step further.

This year, Meralco recognized one particular city as an outstanding “Partner for Progress” for its passion for innovative, heartfelt service. Valenzuela City has been lauded by the World Bank and International Finance Corporation as one of the most business-friendly cities in the Philippines in 2011. It is notable for ease of doing business due to its Biz Bilis anti-red tape drive and One-Stop Shop Processing, which boasts of fast and efficient business application with the support of Meralco.

Valenzuela City, through the leadership of Mayor Sherwin T. Gatchalian, also partnered with One Meralco Foundation and Gawad Kalinga to establish Disiplina Village, a 52-building project for the informal settlers of the city who were victims of Typhoon Ondoy.

The city looks toward the future with more plans to provide better education and more employment opportunities to its residents. Because of this, it indeed stands as a shining example for the country’s development.

To ensure that all LGUs are able to develop their municipalities the same way, Meralco offers a wide range of partnerships relevant to each one’s actual needs. Among them are Meralco’s “Customer Choice Program with Pricing Options,” “Time of Use Programs,” “Energy Solutions for Energy Efficiency and Power Quality” and the support of subsidiaries MServ and Miescor.

The opportunities to partner with Meralco are available for business owners, too. Find out how to become a Partner for Progress by visiting http://www.meralco.com.ph/partnersforprogress.
