MANILA, Philippines—The Royal Dutch Shell Plc is donating $1 million to aid the communities affected by the catastrophic storm Sendong (international name typhoon: Washi).

“The extensive loss of lives and damage to property brought about by Sendong has again mobilized the local and international community to assist in relief and rehabilitation efforts to enable the victims to rebuild their lives,” said Shell companies in the Philippines (SciP) country chairman Edgar Chua.

“I am truly pleased and proud that the Royal Dutch Shell has provided a $1-million donation on top of our local fund-raising activities, which will enable us to provide over P50 million in assistance to our countrymen. This donation reflects the seriousness of the catastrophe and the importance of the Philippines to Shell’s operations worldwide,” Chua said.

Shell likewise partnered with the Gawad Kalinga in providing for the immediate needs of the affected families, including provision of relief goods, distilled water and portalets, and the setting up of Shellane cooking stations in different evacuation centers in the affected areas. Over 100 Shell stations in Mindanao continue to serve as drop-off centers for donations in kind for the Sendong victims.
