CAN LOW-FREQUENCY sound waves treat pain? Yes, this is possible through the Medsonix Acoustic Resonating System that is now in the country. This pain management system integrates a medical device using low-frequency sound waves to increase blood flow and mobility, reduce inflammation and pain, and relieve symptoms of many diseases and disorders.

This revolutionary system was developed a decade ago by Dr. Alphonse Cassone from Las Vegas, Nevada, who experimented with sound waves for 15 years. The treatment procedure is a safe method of relieving pain and discomfort caused by diseases and disorders. It does not require the introduction of instruments into the body.

Approved by and registered with the US Food and Drug Administration as Class A, the Medsonix Acoustic Resonating Therapy System is drug-free and effective for Filipinos suffering from arthritis, migraine, sciatica (describes the symptoms of leg pain—tingling numbness or weakness—that originate in the lower back and travel through the buttocks and down the large sciatic nerve in the back of the leg), back and joint pain and other medical conditions.

It can also relieve pain caused by carpal tunnel syndrome (a medical condition that causes numbness, pain and discomfort in the hand), multiple sclerosis, Lyme disease (a common tick-borne illness transmitted by the bile of an infected black-legged tick), fibromyalgia (a disorder of the unknown etiology marked by widespread pain in muscles, tendons and joints all over the body), diabetic neuropathy and peripheral vascular disease.

Based on two pilot studies conducted at the School of Nursing and Physical Therapy in the University of Nevada Las Vegas in 2000, the Medsonix Acoustic Resonating Therapy System improved the mobility of patients and reduced the pain in 85 percent of patients. The studies were later published in an international medical journal two years later.

Immediate relief

According to Cassione, many patients experience immediate and sustained pain relief after only one treatment. Four to six treatments, however, are normally required to achieve maximum benefit.

Patients sit near the device and are required to wear sound reduction headphones during treatment. Patients can even read, listen to music or check e-mails. They will feel a warm, tingly sensation throughout the body or around the affected area.

Prof. Eric Soriano III was the one who helped Cassione bring the therapy system to the country. He is confident that Filipinos will embrace the system to obtain immediate relief from pain caused by many diseases and disorders.

Improve quality of life

Soriano, who teaches global marketing and real estate at the Ateneo Graduate School of Business, said: “This will help improve the quality of life of many patients who have tried almost everything to get rid of pain caused by many diseases and disorders.

Cassione and a group of Filipino investors have formed Medsonix Philippines, a joint venture, with office at Unit 1110 Raffles Corporate Center, F. Ortigas Jr. Road, Ortigas Center, Pasig City.

Clinica Manila is conducting empirical tests on the device. Through a case series, Clinica Manila president and CEO Hernando B. Delizo, MD, MBA, wants to quantify what is qualitative. Once completed, the availability of treatment procedures will announced to the public.
