Ayala’s electronics unit to make car cameras for company based in US
Ayala-led electronics manufacturer Integrated Micro-Electronics, Inc. (IMI) has bagged a deal to produce automotive cameras for US-based semiconductor firm Renesas Electronics.
IMI, which ranks high on the global list of top automotive electronics manufacturing service (EMS) providers, said on Friday it would provide automotive cameras for the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (Adas) surround view kit of Renesas Electronics, a supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions.
Renesas Adas surround view kit combines automotive cameras from IMI and high-speed gigabit multimedia serial links (GMSL) from Maxim Integrated Products Inc. on a miniature automotive chassis.
Such integration eliminates the need for customers to source and set up automotive components by themselves for surround view development.
When used in combination with the Renesas Adas starter kit and surround view kit, IMI said the camera would simplify and accelerate the development of surround view applications for assisting drivers.
IMI’s camera platforms offer automotive Adas system developers a menu of various combinations of the latest automotive megapixel complementary metal-oxide semiconductor or CMOS sensor, image pipeline and interface architectures, the company said.
“The camera platforms feature state-of-the-art opto-mechanical alignment, efficient thermal management, ingress protection, MTF (modulation transfer function)/temperature stability in the smallest size and the least power consumption,” IMI said.
“They are automotive-ready, and can easily be customized to enable the system to work immediately,” the company said.
The Laguna-based IMI’s ranking improved one notch up to 7th in 2014 on the global ranking of automotive EMS providers as listed by US-based global market research firm New Venture Research based on 2014 EMS-related revenues.
Revenues generated by IMI from the automotive segment rose by 16 percent to $321 million in 2014 from $276 million in 2013 mainly due to the steady global growth trend and the normalization of the European market.
The company outperformed the average rise of total automotive EMS of 9.9 percent over the same period.
IMI said the increase in global market share shows not only the long-term growth potential of the automotive market in electronics but also the firm’s commitment to widen and strengthen its foothold in the industry.
