SMC, Nestlé among top firms to work for in PH, study says
SAN MIGUEL Corp. retained its top spot among companies Filipinos want to work for because of its “quality leadership” and “reputation,” results of a recent study among users of a job search website showed.
The conglomerate recorded a back-to-back No. 1 finish on Jobstreet.com Philippines’ list of “Top Companies Filipinos Aspire to Work for” for 2015, the online company said in a recent briefing at the Best Western Premier Antel Suites in Makati City.
Jobstreet.com Philippines users who chose San Miguel Corp. cited the company’s “quality leadership” as the most influential factor in making their decision.
“Company reputation” and “stability” were the other top reasons for choosing the food and beverage giant, the study added.
Following SMC is Nestlé Philippines.
Jobstreet.com users who chose the Philippine arm of the Swiss food giant cited the “benefits and incentives” offered by the company as the most important factor that made it appealing to those in the work force.
“Career growth” and “salary” were the other top reasons why Filipinos aspire to work for Nestlé Philippines, the study revealed.
Contact center company Accenture jumped two spots from fifth place last year to third in the 2015 ranking because of the “learning and development” its employees are enjoying.
Jobstreet.com Philippines laid out three phases for the study.
For the first stage, it gathered data from 4,157 website members who were active in the six months prior to the study period.
During the initial stage, the respondents cited more than 1,000 companies.
For the second phase, the online company conducted a web-based survey among its members who are working or have recently worked for the 10 companies that topped the first phase.
During the final stage, in-depth interviews with current and recent employees from the top 10 companies were conducted, where Jobstreet.com received more qualitative information to back the numerical data.
The majority of the respondents (58 percent) came from Metro Manila, followed by Calabarzon (16 percent).
The study also revealed that Shell Philippines cracked the Top 5 this year.
Its employees cited “salary” as the most important factor in choosing the company, followed by “work-life balance” and “quality leadership.”
Rounding out the Top 5 is Procter & Gamble Philippines, which was cited for “work-life balance,” “benefits and incentives” and “learning and development.”
SM Investments Corp. placed sixth, followed by ABS-CBN Corp., Banco De Oro Unibank and Coca-Cola Femsa Philippines.
Unilever Philippines rounded up the Top 10.
Jobstreet.com Philippines also revealed that the study showed a shift in the way Filipinos make their decisions on which company to choose.
Yoda Buyco, Jobstreet.com marketing director in the Philippines, said “last year, jobseekers based their decision on salary in looking for a company. This year, benefits and incentives are more important in choosing where to work.”
Benefits and incentives include “performance-based bonuses,” “health insurance,” “retirement pay,” and “car and housing loans,” said Buyco.
While the two factors switched places, “support and training/learning and development” remained the third most important factor Filipinos consider in choosing a company.
“This is especially true for fresh graduates,” said Buyco, citing the rookies’ desire to grow in the work force.
Buyco said Jobstreet.com Philippines had been conducting such a study to “get the public’s pulse as to which companies they aspire to be part of” and to “motivate jobseekers by giving them an inside look into these companies from the employees’ perspectives.”
Jobstreet.com Philippines also hopes the study would “inspire other employers by letting them know what these top companies are doing right,” Buyco added.
