Yellow alert hounds Visayas grid

MANILA, Philippines – The Visayas is again experiencing a thin power supply on Monday, prompting the grid operator to put it under yellow alert.
In an advisory, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said the yellow alert will be in place for five hours, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
READ: Visayas power supply may stay unstable until August
As of Monday morning, the available capacity is 2,593 megawatts (MW), while peak demand is 2,427 MW.
The NGCP said outages at three large coal plants continued to constrain power supply in the Visayas since May.
A yellow alert signals thin power reserves, leaving the grid vulnerable to disruptions if another plant goes offline.
All affected power plants are expected to be operational by August, which should resolve the issue. /pai INQ
