Tight electricity supply persists over Visayas

NGCP puts Luzon grid on ‘yellow alert’

MANILA, Philippines – Thin power supply continues to hound the Visayas, with four large coal plants not injecting the needed capacity. 

In an advisory on Thursday, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines said the region would be under yellow alert from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.

As of Thursday morning, the available capacity was 2,570 megawatts (MW), while the peak demand was 2,452 MW. 

A yellow alert means supply can still meet demand but warns that plant outages may cause brownouts. /pai INQ
