Visayas grid on yellow alert again on June 12

MANILA, Philippines – The outages at three large coal power plants in the Visayas again prompted the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines to place the region under yellow alert on Friday.
In an advisory, the country’s grid operator said the yellow alert will take effect from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In a yellow alert, the power supply can still meet demand, but serves as a warning that when a plant breaks down one way or another, it will result in brownouts.
With some power facilities still offline and running on derated capacities, it said about 863.3 megawatts (MW) of power capacity were not available to the grid.
Currently, the available capacity is 2,663 MW, while the peak demand is 2,441 MW. /pai INQ
