MANILA, Philippines – The Visayas power grid remained under a yellow alert on Tuesday as several power plants are offline amid a projected rise in electricity demand, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said.
In an advisory, the grid operator extended the yellow alert, which will take effect from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Initially, the yellow alert was supposed to take effect from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

NGCP said that available capacity was 2,525 MW, while peak demand was seen to reach 2,467 MW during the period. In an earlier advisory, available capacity stood at 2,644 megawatts (MW), while peak demand was projected to reach 2,457 MW during the period.
The unavailability of major coal-fired power plants, including TVI Units 1 and 2 and PEDC Unit 3, decrease in power import from Mindanao, and an increase in forecasted demand triggered the yellow alert.
As of 8 a.m., seven power plants were on forced outage this month. Eight others have remained offline since May, while several units have been unavailable since as far back as 2021.
