AboitizPower monitors facilities after Mindanao earthquake

MANILA, Philippines – Aboitiz Power Corp. (AboitizPower) said it is closely monitoring its facilities following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck off Sarangani on Monday, assuring consumers of continued service and operational safety.

In a statement, the company said power generation operations remain normal across its Mindanao facilities.

An initial assessment, according to AboitizPower, showed a temporary disruption at Therma South Inc. (TSI) in Davao, but the plant was reconnected to the grid by 1:07 p.m.

On the other hand, Therma Marine Inc.’s facilities in Maco, Davao de Oro and Nasipit, Agusan del Norte, as well as SPI Power Inc. in Misamis Oriental, continued operating normally.

Aboitiz Renewables Inc. reported a localized line tripping at its hydropower facilities, although affected units resumed normal operations after safety inspections.

On the distribution side, Cotabato Light has restored services in its franchise area as of 1:14 p.m. amid reported temporary outages. Davao Light also restored power to affected customers, with all major lines and substations energized by 2 p.m.

The company said field teams continue inspections and safety checks while monitoring aftershocks. All personnel across its facilities were reported safe.
